Procrastination

If it weren't for the last minute, I wouldn't get anything done. ~Author Unknown

I do my work at the same time each day - the last minute. ~Author Unknown

It's such a long word, you almost want to put off saying it. It's Procrastination -- also known as delaying, shillyshallying, and excuse-making. But if you chronically put things off, you will suffer for it -- fines, late payment fee, and often, bad, hastily done work that can lead to unpleasant consequences. Plus -- don't forget that nagging feeling and a suspicion that you are "not worthy."

Time Management Tips to Beat Procrastination

Tailor your environment for work. Close your door, clean up the clutter on your desk.

Remove distractions such as water coolers, snacks, in-boxes, coffee machines and magazine racks.

Make a list of what needs to get done. This can be listed in no particular order and will give you a handle on just what you need to accomplish.

Prioritize these you may also choose to rank them by how important it is to get them done. For example, paying your bills on time may be more important to you than cleaning out your closets. Do that first.

If you work at home, treat your office as an office. Don't go out to lunch before lunchtime or watch television before the end of the day.

Just get started. Going from doing nothing to doing something is often the hardest part. Imagine how good you will feel when everything is off your mind.

Stay focused. Say "no" to picking up the guitar, playing a DVD or texting your friends. Build confidence in your ability to make choices.
