The Sovereign Base Areas of Akrotiri and Dhekelia are two UK-administered areas on the island of Cyprus that comprise the Sovereign Base Areas military bases of the United Kingdom.
The bases are split into Akrotiri (Greek: Ακρωτήρι; Turkish: Agrotur, along with Episkopi Garrison, is part of an area known as the Western Sovereign Base Area or WSBA) and Dhekelia (Greek: Δεκέλεια; Turkish: Dikelya, along with Ayios Nikolaos, is part of the Eastern Sovereign Base Area or ESBA).
There are around 14,000 people in the Base Areas. English is the main language spoken by the British soldiers in the Bases, which make up about half of the population. Greek Cypriots, who speak Greek, make up the other 7,000 people in the Base
Dhekelia Beach is the largest beach of Larnaca and goes on for miles and forms the backdrop for many of Larnaca's four and five-star hotels and resorts, and close to the range of selfa catering villa's and apartments.
