Congo, Republic of the is a country in Central Africa. It is bordered by Gabon, Cameroon, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (formerly known as Zaire), the Angolan exclave province of Cabinda, and the Gulf of Guinea.
Republic of the Congo's sparse population is concentrated in the southwestern portion of the country, leaving the vast areas of tropical jungle in the north virtually uninhabited
Brazzaville had a major music scene until unrest in the late 1990s, and produced popular bands like Bantous de la Capitale that played an integral role in the development of soukous and other styles of Congolese popular music. The Hip-Hop group "Bisso na Bisso" also hails from Congo-Brazzaville.
The first church in Congo was built in 1882 by a French priest and is located in Linzolo, 30km (19 miles) from the capital. The city is also home to the regional seat of the World Health Organization and a very good market.
Brazzaville was the capital of the "Free France" of the 1940s, Charles de Gaulle had a house built for him, the site of which is popular among visitors still today.
